God Finds Us: A Book about Being Found by Kristen McCurry Illustrated by Jennifer Hilton ISBN: 978-1-5064-1045-6

If you are a grandparent, by now you have read and seen just about every kids book there is.  Isn’t it great when you find a book that is age appropriate for a very young child that teaches about God while teaching the child other things, too?

You don’t have to have a degree in child psychology to know that peekaboo is fun for the child AND the adult.  But, it teaches the child about object permanence.

God Finds Us helps children to learn that just because they can’t see something doesn’t mean it isn’t there.  Once you have taught the child that, good luck on convincing them that one of those blue guys from the movie isn’t hiding in his closet.

Once the child learns that just because they cannot see something that minute doesn’t mean it no longer exists, the child can more easily understand that God is there even when we don’t see Him.

This book will make a great gift for your child, grandchild, or other child.

Genealogy Basics In 30 Minutes by Shannon Combs-Bennett ISBN: 978-1-939924-68-1

Genealogy Basics In 30 Minutes by Shannon Combs-Bennett is a quick little book, loaded with helpful information for someone looking to get started on their family history adventure.

How to name your files consistently and organize your records; how to tame the paper monster; citing your sources; what to pack in your genealogy road trip kit, and the importance of answering for our children the questions that we can no longer ask of our forefathers...all this and more are found in this book.

For a beginner, it is a good starting point. For the experienced genealogist, it is a good reminder of what we should be doing along the way to make things easier for future family researchers, and for ourselves as we get older.

It took me a bit longer than 30 minutes to read, but I tend to slow down and take my time with anything genealogy-related. Genealogy Basics In 30 Minutes is worth the time spent to read it.

Homer and the Holiday Miracle: A True Story by Gwen Cooper ISBN: 978-1-946885-78-4

Do you believe in Christmas Miracles?  Do you believe there is something special about a black cat?  If your answer to either of those questions is yes, you must read Homer and the Holiday Miracle: A True Story by Gwen Cooper.

It isn’t a long read.  In fact, it is only 47 small, heart-tugging pages long.  The story is absolutely great and seems to be very heartfelt.

I, David, was never much of a cat person, as anyone who has read my blog knows.  However, I know how one little frail kitty, who had to be bottle fed when we rescued him, a little black and white kitty put the “come hither” on me and changed my heart forever.

Homer, an old, blind, black cat will get into your heart, rip it out, and put it in a headlock while you feel so warm inside and, at the same time, want to bawl your eyes out.

If you are looking for a little touch of Christmas cheer in a short book that will melt your heart, Homer and the Holiday Miracle is the book for you.

Bigger Than Business: Real-World Stories of Business Owners Living Their Purpose by Jeff Holler ISBN: 978-1-946615-15-2

I, David, love to read case stories of businesses.  I especially love to read the stories of failing businesses that were able to pull off a “Hail Mary” and turn around to greatness.

Both Suzanne and I love to read inspirational stories about Christians beating all the odds and growing in their faith.

Nowhere in the Bible will you find that God instructs anyone to go into debt for any reason. Just try to find that in the Bible.

In several stories in Bigger than Business you find where not having debt meant that the business was able to take advantage of opportunities because the economic climate favored those with cash.  Several of these stories told of companies working to pay off their debt.

Most of these stories told of how they gave their tithe and then gave above and beyond that as the business grew. 10% of EBITDA* is given to the church, not other charities. The tithe goes to the storehouse.

These stories are wonderful and inspiring.  The stories are well-written and give a good bit of detail on the business before it got into trouble or before it even got started.

Many of these stories tell of a leap of faith, or in some cases, constant leaps of faith.  Some of these stories show that when you are faced with the impossible in your business or other parts of your life, you have to Let go and Let God.

Bigger than Business will make a wonderful gift for any Christian, whether they are in business or not.  It would also make a great gift to someone who isn’t a Christian who needs a little help in coming to Christ.

If your business needs a faith lift, this book is for you.

Activators: A CEO's Guide to Clearer Thinking and Getting Things Done by Mark E Green ISBN: 978-1-949639-09-4

George S. Patton once said, “A good plan violently executed now is better than a perfect plan executed next week”.  This could be a very good tip to many CEOs today.

The book Activators: A CEO's Guide to Clearer Thinking and Getting Things Done by Mark E Green seeks to help CEOs, and others in leadership, overcome their fears and execute their plans.

This book is well-written and full of exercises to help leaders realize that the most important thing they can do is to formulate a plan, any plan, and get started.

Too often, businesses fail because the leaders won’t make decisions and stick with them.

Activators also tells leaders about making those hard decisions to fire high achieving employees who have become toxic to the company or jettison projects that just aren’t working.

The only real problem I saw in this book is that some of the graphics, especially those written in yellow, are hard to read.

If you know someone in a leadership role in any business, large or small, you will want to give them their very own copy of Activators.

His Royal Dogness, Guy the Beagle: The Rebarkable True Story of Meghan Markle's Rescue Dog by Camille March and Michael Brumm Illustrated by EG Keller ISBN: 978-1-9821-1462-6

Do you want to know all the secrets of the Royal Pets? His Royal Dogness, Guy the Beagle: The Rebarkable True Story of Meghan Markle's Rescue Dog by Camille March and Michael Brumm and Illustrated by EG Keller will give you all the background of the newest royal dog.

This book is cute and funny.  It tells about how the duchess came to possess Guy.

This book would make a great addition to your family home evening stories and those bedtime stories you read to all your little knee huggers.

The book is well-illustrated. Unlike most children’s books today, the colors are not intense.  This is a great thing for an easily overstimulated child. As your child deprograms from the day’s technology intense activities, this might be a good step down as you try to get them to bed.

We think every child should have His Royal Dogness, Guy the Beagle, under the Christmas tree. Grandparents, are you listening?
